Background

Where the member started.

Jenny, a 34-year-old single mother of two, received a 30-day pay-or-quit notice after losing her warehouse job. With $1,800 in past-due rent and no savings, she had been sleeping in shifts, applying for jobs while her children were at school.

In their words —

I had three weeks before we'd be on the street. Atlas Health Group didn't just hand me a flyer — they sat with me until the keys were in my hand.

03

The challenge

What stood in the way.

  1. 01

Active 30-day pay-or-quit notice with the clock already running.

  2. 02

$1,800 rent arrears plus first/last/deposit needed for any new unit.

  3. 03

Two school-age children at risk of mid-year displacement.

  4. 04

No active CalFresh, CalWORKs, or utility assistance enrollment.

04

Our approach

How we built the plan.

Move 01

Parallel-track the eviction defense and a new-housing search instead of sequencing them.

Move 02

Bundle Housing Deposits, Housing Tenancy Sustaining Services, and benefits enrollment in one plan.

Move 03

Keep the children in their current school zone as a non-negotiable constraint.

The solution

Step by step, what we actually did.

  1. 01

    Day 1 — Eviction triage

Connected to a legal aid partner; filed an answer that bought 14 additional days.

  2. 02

    Days 2–7 — Benefits stack-up

Enrolled in CalFresh, CalWORKs, and LIHEAP; located a unit in-zone under the Housing Choice voucher list.

  3. 03

    Days 8–14 — Deposit and move-in

Community Supports funded first month plus deposit; coordinated movers and utility transfer.

  4. 04

    Days 15–90 — Tenancy sustaining

Monthly check-ins, budgeting coaching, and a warm handoff to a workforce program produced a new full-time role at day 62.
